Taoist Perspective

Karine Martin

I met Karine in april 2023, in Rishikesh, India.

Karine was 'Cloud Wondering', which in Taoism is a sabbatical time of rest from one's own duties! Karine is a neuroscientist and a taoist priestess. She taught me the importance of cultivating equanimity towards all the opposites of life: happiness and sadness, feminine and masculine, lightness and darkness.

“In the Taoist path there is an extraordinary equality between men and women. In the temple we wear the same clothes, the woman can perform functions and rituals or be abbess of an all-male monastery. No distinction is made between men and women. I think it is because Taoism is based on the notion of yin and yang, and no one can exist without the other”.
